On Sunday morning 26 members of Ponthir Cricket Club turned out early to support Cricketforce 2010. The weather, which had threatened to cancel the day, was on our side as we started the day with bacon butties and mugs of tea and coffee.
A trip to B&Q to buy paint, rollers and brushes meant that the painting of the outside of the Clubhouse was soon underway. Other groups of volunteers were putting up the nets, weeding the paths, pressure washing the patio and digging out the drainage channels around the building. Once the clubhouse was transformed we then set to work on painting the patio wall and staining the wooden clubhouse doors.
Everyone worked extremely hard – from our youngest volunteers – Tom Simkiss (10) and George Jones (12) to our oldest member – Club President Arthur Webber (85 years). Regular breaks for coffee & cakes and more bacon butties kept everyone motivated! 6 hours later and all the work was finished, the clubhouse looked fantastic – a brilliant start to the new cricket season.
A huge thank you to everyone who turned up to make the day a great success:

Some of you may not know that during the cold spell after Christmas we had a burst pipe in the roof of the Clubhouse that brought down the ceilings in both the away team changing room and the mens shower room. Repairs have been underway and the ceilings replaced in both rooms. The electrics still need sorting and a new carpet needs to be laid in the lounge but hopefully the clubhouse will be back to normal for the start of the new season.
